Borna Coric v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

The two players have met twice on the ATP circuit, with Coric winning both times. At the 2016 French Open it was a straight set win for the Croat, where as it was a tight three set win for him at the 2018 Indian Wells Masters tournament.

2018 Halle Champion Coric Looking For A Good Grass Stint

‘Next Gen’ Croat Borna Coric had a breakthrough year in 2018 winning his first ATP 500 tournament at Halle on grass, and qualifying for his first ATP Masters 1000 final in Shanghai.

Coric beat Swiss maestro Roger Federer at both tournaments, in the finals and semi-finals respectively. The Croat broke into the top 15 of the ATP ranking and was ranked as high as number 12 in the world in late 2018.

2019 has been a mixed year for Coric, making the fourth round at the Australian Open and the semi-finals at the Dubai Open, but some less favorable results on the clay thereafter.

After winning the tournament on grass at Halle last year, but then losing in the first round at the Wimbledon, Coric will look to a more consistent grass swing ahead of him this time. With a strong serve that has precision, strong groundstrokes and court coverage and a consistent return game, at 22 years of age, Coric has already been tipped for future greatness by several experts on the tour.

Coric received a bye in his first round at the Liberma Open.

Fritz Hoping To Continue Improvement In Form

American Taylor Fritz is another member of the ‘Next Gen’. The 21 year old American with a powerful game was ranked number 40 in the world this January, before falling back to 57 again now.

2018 was a good year for Fritz where he returned to the top 100 on the circuit at the back of strong performances at the Indian Wells Masters, the Houston Champioships, and Challenger Events. Qualifying for the third round of the Australian Open this year was his best outcome at a major, eventually losing to Federer.

With a powerful serve and strong groundstrokes, Fritz will be looking forward to the grass courts and improving to the latter stages of the tournament.

Fritz won his opener against Austrian qualifier Jurij Rodionov in straight sets.

Borna Coric v Taylor Fritz Predictions & Tips

Fritz’s big serve and powerful groundstrokes should suit the grass well, but on the other hand is Coric, who returns the serve extremely well and can negate the serving advantage of Fritz.

The American is yet to face noteworthy success on grass, where as Coric had a mixed 2018 on the grass winning Halle and losing in the first round at Wimbledon.

Fritz’s power game will be on show, but Coric’s return and often underrated serve will be tough to overcome. Expect a good battle with Coric winning in three sets.

Tip: Coric to win in three sets: 6/4 (888Sport)
