Stefanos Tsitsipas v Nicolas Jarry Head to Head

The two players have never met on the ATP circuit.

Top Seed Tsitsipas Looking For Early Confidence on Grass

Greek sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas has been in sensational form for the last 12 months, winning his first three ATP titles, qualifying for the Australian Open semi-finals, the final sixteen at the French Open and other impressive results. He has recorded wins against Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in this time frame as well. Currently ranked number six in the world on the ATP circuit, he is well on course for a first appearance at the year-end ATP Tour finals, exactly a year after he won the ATP Under 21 Tour Finals in Milan.

With a strong serve, powerful groundstrokes on either wing, an elegant single handed backhand, and good court coverage, he has evolved as a contender at all tournaments now. Having met with most of his successes after the 2018 grass court swing, it will be interesting to see how he performs this time around on the grass.

Tsitsipas will be looking to perform well at both the Liberma Open this week, and at the Queens Club next week, gaining the necessary confidence ahead of Wimbledon. He received a first round bye and plays Nicolas Jarry in the second round.

Jarry Looking For Grass Court Experience and Success

Chilean Nicolas Jarry is in his second full season on the ATP circuit, after achieving a career high ranking of 39 at the end of his first full season on the tour last year. Having performed well in years past at the ATP Challengers, Jarry did well to reach the semi-finals of the 2018 Brasil Open, and semi-finals of the Rio Open, German Open and Kitzbuhel Open the same year, assisting him break into the top 40 in the rankings.

The biggest win of his career was defeating then top ten ranked Marin Cilic, in the second round of the ATP Shanghai Masters 1000, in 2018. Jarry’s results in 2019 have been less promising and he is currently ranked number 58.

At 6 ft 6in tall, the Chilean has a big serve and improving his groundstrokes will make him a formidable opponent on the faster surfaces. Jarry beat Jannik Sinner of Italy in the first round 7-6, (7-4), 6-3.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Nicolas Jarry Predictions & Tips

Jarry is a big server, which can serve as a strong weapon on the faster grass courts. However, his experience on the grass is minimal having a 2-2 career record on the grass. On the other side, Tsitsipas is a completely changed player since the last grass court season.

One of the best players on the circuit in the last year, the Greek is full of confidence and in good form. With a good all-round game, that is well suited to all surfaces, it is difficult to envision him being troubled too much by Jarry. Expect some good hitting in the match, with Tsitsipas winning in straight sets.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 1/1 (888Sport)
