Milos Raonic v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head

The two men have played each other twice before, although never on grass. Raonic won on the clay of Istanbul in 2017, and again on the hard courts of Brisbane earlier this year.

Raonic Showing His Form on Grass

The 2016 runner-up here at Queen’s and again at Wimbledon that same year got his campaign off to a good start with a comfortable win over Italian Marco Cecchinato in straight sets on Wednesday, setting aside any frustrations caused by the rain delays to win at a canter.

Ominously for his opponents this week, he showed that his serve was in fine working order by producing no less than 24 aces during the match, and whilst his return is not always his strongest suit, he converted all three break points he won, and won 32 points that he faced on the Cecchinato serve.

Encouragingly for him and his fans he exhibited no signs of the back injury which caused him to pull out before his semi-final at the Mercedes Open last week.

Bedene Performing Well in Front of Adopted Crowd

Bedene, who briefly converted his international allegiance from Slovenia to Great Britain before reverting back again, lives in the UK and still has a fair degree of support there.

He has used that to his advantage to battle through two rounds of qualifying to earn his spot in the main draw, where he exceeded expectations by beating the young Australian, Alex de Minaur, ranked some 76 places above him in the world, coming from a set down to do so.

He will need all that support in his match against Raonic, especially given that grass is not a surface he favours – he has never got beyond the second round at Wimbledon.

Raonic v Bedene Predictions & Tips

Raonic will be the odds-on favourite for this match, whilst Bedene will be a long-priced outsider. The Slovenian has done very well to get this far, but it is hard to envisage how he will cope with the Canadian’s serve on grass.

Tip: Raonic to win in straight sets: 4/6 (888Sport)
