Caroline Wozniacki v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head
The Dane currently holds a 4-1 lead over Petkovic on the WTA Tour. Coincidentally, they last met in Eastbourne itself in the quarterfinal, back in 2015.
Wozniacki was the winner of that match with a 7-5, 6-1 performance while Petkovic’s only win dates back to 2011.
Wozniacki Looking Confident in Eastbourne
The Danish No. 1, who is playing in her first tournament since she got married less than a fortnight ago, started her title defence in the Nature Valley International with a good win.
She defeated Kirsten Flipkens 6-3, 6-4 in the opener to reach the second round. This was her first win since the Charleston Open, as she lost her openers in Madrid, Rome, and the Roland Garros.
Wozniacki hasn’t had that good of a run this year as she struggled with injuries and a drastic loss of form. Consequently, she fell out of the top 10. However, not everything has been grim for her. She reached the final in Charleston and had a fourth-round appearance in Miami.
Petkovic’s Mundane Season
Andrea Petkovic started her run in Eastbourne with a compelling win over Daria Kasatkina. The young Russian had a lot of tricks up her sleeve the veteran German quelled that danger in three sets. It was also one of her better performances in the season.
Petkovic’s year so far is largely highlighted by her unsuccessful attempts to move past the early rounds. She has won only 12 matches this season while losing a massive 15. She hasn’t reached the final on the tour since 2015.
Wozniacki v Petkovic Predictions & Tips
Expect Wozniacki to win this one comfortably. She is a favourite in Eastbourne and holds a special connection to the place. It is her favourite grass court event and it is hard to imagine Petkovic make a dent in that relationship.
