Karolina Pliskova v Monica Puig Head to Head

The two ladies have met four times on the WTA Tour and not so surprisingly, Pliskova has won all of them quite comfortably. They last met in the 2017 Indian Wells Open, where the Czech won in three sets.

Business as Usual for Pliskova

Fresh off her superb performance in Eastbourne last week, where she won her third title of the season, Pliskova started her campaign in Wimbledon on pretty much the same note.

Facing Lin Zhu in the opener, she prevailed in an hour and 24 minutes with 6-2, 7-6(4). Despite a solid victory, some may argue that the current WTA Tokyo champion may not have been that efficient. She committed 18 unforced errors while converting only four out of a possible 10 break points. On the bright side, won 81% of her first service points.

Pliskova has been in a dominating form throughout this season, excelling on clay and hard courts as well. Even though she has had her share of defeats, she never lost the consistency. Among her best results was her runner-up feat in Miami, and the winning runs in the Italian Open and Eastbourne.

A New feat for Puig

This is the first time since 2013 that Monica Puig has reached the second round in Wimbledon. It is a feat in itself that warrants some attention, given that she lost the openers five years in a row.

It wasn’t an easy task for the Puerto Rican to achieve this feat – she had to dispatch Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in three sets. The match lasted for well over two hours and saw Puig stage a fighting comeback after losing the first set.

Both the players committed a lot of unforced errors but Puig managed to bag the crucial points to seal the win. That victory also marked her first victory on grass this season.

As for her best run, she was a semifinalist in Charleston. Apart from that, she mostly lost in the early rounds.

Pliskova v Puig Predictions & Tips

We can expect Puig to put up a fight but given Pliskova’s form at the moment, it may be an exercise in futility. Expect the Czech to wrap this one in straight sets.

Tip: Pliskova to win 2-0. (888Sport)
