Marin Cilic v Bradley Klahn Head to Head

Cilic and Klahn will meet for the first time.

Cilic Needs To Find Form And Fast

Marin Cilic has posted quite easily one of his poorest seasons to date, but he is slowly building into some form during the North American hard-court swing.

The Croat reached the quarterfinal in Washington last week (beating rising Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime en route), but his form before that has been cause for concern.

The big-hitting Croat has won just two back-to-back matches all year coming to the US capital, losing in the second round of his last four tournaments he played in. However, he is looking for a change of fortunes at this stage of the season.

It is worth reminding that Cilic usually plays his best tennis at this part of the year having won his maiden Masters 1000 crown in Cincinnati in 2016. The 30-year-old also won his first and thus far only Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2014. So, we should not really underestimate the damage that the Croatian could do on a good day on the hard-courts.

Cilic will be one of a handful of players with a mighty chance of making the finals in the bottom half of the draw after Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer’s absences from the tournament.

Klahn Won Winnetka Challenger Last Month

Bradley Klahn might be one of those rare breeds of American college talents who were destined for the top, but became unlucky due to injuries.

Klahn won the 2010 NCAA Singles champion as a sophomore at Stanford. However, he missed nearly two years of pro tennis in 2015 and 2016 after undergoing two back surgeries.

The American has made steady progress since then and is currently in the Top 100 bracket at No.92 in the world. He won his first title of the 2019 season at the Winnetka Challenger in the middle of July and beat Steven Diez and Viktor Troicki to qualify for the Rogers Cup.

Does he have the game to trouble or upset an inconsistent Cilic?

Cilic v Klahn Predictions & Tips

Cilic is looking hungry for match wins lately after an indifferent start to the 2019 season. Granted that the Croat suffered from injuries and lapses of concentration midway through the year, he is still one of the best players in the world when on song and he is slowly fine-tuning his game as he prepares for the US Open.

The next two weeks will be key for the former World No.3 and he will be delighted to have what looks to be a straight-forward opener in Montreal.

Tip: Cilic to win in straight sets: 19/20 (888Sport)
