Roberto Bautista Agut v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

This will be the fifth meeting between these two players with Bautista-Agut leading the head to head 3-1. This includes a win in 2019 at Halle, where the Spaniad beat Gasquet in straight sets in the second round. All three previous encounters came in 2014 and 2015 on hard or indoor hard court surfaces.

Agut Yet to Drop a Set

As we mentioned earlier here, the Spaniard is having the time of his life and he notched up another win to his tally when he got the better of Argentine Diego Schwartzman in his second round match. He won in straight sets to follow up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Bernard Tomic and should go into this match wanting to show as much clinical form as he has so far.

Interestingly, Bautista-Agut hadn’t participated at this competition last season, which means he has no points to defend. With Juan Martin del Potro not participating this year at this competition and Kevin Anderson having 360 points to defend, this could give the Spaniard a good chance to leapfrog over them.

A third round entry would have been enough to jump two places but he would love to carry on winning, taking advantage of this superb run of form he finds himself in.

Gasquet’s Shock Win over Nishikori Should Help

Gasquet, who has endured a poor season so far, was a shock winner over Japan’s fifth seed Kei Nishikori. What made the win special apart from it being a top-10 scalp is that Nishikori had a match-point during that encounter but Gasquet came back strongly to clinch the deal.

This win comes on the back of his straight-set victory over Benoit Paire in round one.

And for the Frenchman who has missed a lot of tennis this season because of a back injury in Lyon and for someone with a 9-9 win-loss record at the start of this competition, these two back to back wins would mean a lot. This is not to say that his opponent will be a pushover – far from it – but it gives Gasquet a scent of success, of pushing the Frenchman to a third set and hoping things go his way from there on.

Bautista Agut v Gasquet Predictions & Tips

It comes as no surprise that Bautista-Agut is an overwhelming favourite at 1/4 to win this but with the kind of fighting spirit shown by Gasquet, we can look at the games handicap markets for this one.
