Karolina Pliskova v Svetlana Kuznetsova Head to Head

The head to head tally between the two players currently stands at 2-2, with the last win going in the favour of Pliskova. They met back in the 2017 WTA Eastbourne, where the Czech won in three sets.

Pliskova with a Remarkable Run

Currently in contention for the No. 1 crown on the tour, Pliskova is just two wins away from having a serious chance at achieving that feat. More than that, she is staking her claim for the US Open title with the final Grand Slam right around the corner.

Her run in Cincinnati marks the second consecutive time that she has reached the quarterfinal. Just last week in Toronto, the number three seed reached the same stage where she fell to Bianca Andreescu. This time around, she faces a more experienced albeit, out-of-form opponent.

With three titles, 40 wins and just 11 loses, Pliskova has been undoubtedly one of the most efficient players on the tour this season. Till date this year, there have been only two tournaments where Pliskova failed to move past the second round. During her journey, she has also dismantled several top 10 players with absolute ease to reach the latter rounds.

It was business as usual for her in Cincinnati as she enjoyed a bye into the second round. Starting with Yafan Wang, she later knocked out Rebecca Peterson in straight sets to reach the quarters.

Kuznetsova with a New Lease on Life

After struggling with a slew of injuries related to her wrist and knee, Kuznetsova finally managed to get some traction and find her winning ways. Her health concerns kept her out of the action for a little under a year, courtesy of which she is now World No. 154.

It has been a whirlwind 12 months for the Russian, who has been facing a plethora of problems. However, with time, she developed a more mature outlook towards such things and now, she is here to play and win.

She quit her campaign last year in the Kremlin Cup and it wasn’t until the WTA Lugano that she was fully fit to get back in action. Even then, she was quite unfortunate to struggle with a serious loss in form and was compelled to take things gradually.

Day by day, she has been improving and finally, she has a run to show for. She arrived in Cincinnati with a wildcard, just the week after reaching the third round in the Rogers Cup. Kuznetsova was placed in a fairly tricky bracket but she managed to handle that with ease.

She defeated Anastasija Sevastova in the opener in a three-set affair and built on it with a similar result against Dayana Yastremska. In the third round, she delivered her single-biggest win of the year by edging past Sloane Stephens with 6-1, 6-2.

Pliskova v Kuznetsova Prediction & Tips

Kuznetsova is playing a kind of ferocity that we haven’t seen in quite some time. She clearly has the skill and experience to take on someone as talented as Pliskova, making this match an even fixture. Of course, the Czech will start as the favourite, thanks to her recent form but with Kuznetsova looking so determined to win, that may not be the case once they get on the courts.

Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 7/8 (888Sport)
