Benoit Paire v Pablo Carreno Busta Preview & Tips:

After a straightforward second round win over Prajnesh Gunneswaran, Paire was taken the distance by fellow Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the third round. Humbert took the early lead too, winning the first set but Paire fought back tooth and nail, winning the second tie in a tie-breaker and then clinching the match in the third to seal his quarter-final berth.

His opponent in the last-eight round will be Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta, who was a 7-6, 6-0 winner over Lorenzo Sonego in his third round match.

Paire and Carreno-Busta are familiar opponents. They have faced off a whopping 12 times before this, with Paire leading 8-4 including on the last four occasions they played. These four meetings have come over the past 12 months or so as well, which gives Paire a huge edge, fuelled even more by the fact that three of Carreno-Busta’s four wins were on clay.

Paire v Carreno-Busta Prediction: Paire to win: 19/20 (888Sport)

John Millman v Steve Johnson Preview & Tips:

In what will be the fifth meeting between Millman and Johnson, they will be playing in the Winston-Salem quarter-final on Thursday. Johnson leads 3-1, but in their only match that has happened over the last three years, Millman was a straight-set winner over the American at the Madrid Masters earlier this year.

As far as their rankings go, Millman holds a slight edge been ranked in the 60s to Johnson’s 82. However, neither player has had a week to remember by any stretch with Johnson winning 18 and losing 19 and Millman’s record a poor 19-24 on win-loss.

This is probably why Johnson’s three back to back straight-set wins come as a surprise in a lead-up to this encounter, and he is our pick to win this one too – good chance it would be a tough one though.

Millman v Johnson Prediction: Johnson to win: 8/13 (888Sport)

Hubert Hurkacz v Frances Tiafoe Preview & Tips:

Tiafoe leads Hurkacz 2-0 on head to head, having beaten him both times last year. The first meeting was on the hard courts of Washington in which the American was a straight-set winner before he came up trumps at the Next Gen ATP Finals in four sets (obviously with a different point system and all that).

Now those were different times because Tiafoe has really struggled this season while his Polish opponent has gone from strength, having risen to 41st in the world. After a first round bye, Hurkacz defeated Lee Duck Hee and then crushed Feliciano Lopez in straight sets to set up this meeting in which the third seed starts off as a favourite.

Hurkacz v Tiafoe Prediction: Hurkacz to win in straight sets: 13/10 (888Sport)

Denis Shapovalov v Andrey Rublev Preview & Tips:

This will be their third meeting, with both players having once apiece. Rublev won a five-setter in a 2017 Next Gen ATP Final match but more vitally, Shapovalov was a straight-set winner over his opponent at the Miami Masters earlier this year.

21-year-old Rublev has had a decent year already which includes a quarter-final appearance at the Cincinnati Masters, where he produced the biggest result of his career – beat Roger Federer in straight sets. Earlier he had overcome Stan Wawrinka as well.

Shapovalov’s season has been a tad underwhelming, especially since his Miami Masters semi-final appearance. Since beating Rublev in that tournament and then registering wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas and Frances Tiafoe, his career has gone the other way with a 4-11 win-loss record before this competition.

Shapovalov v Rublev Prediction: Rublev to win: 4/5 (888Sport)
