Kasatkina holds a 2-1 lead over her British adversary, defeating her in their last two meetings. The most recent one took place in Moscow last season, where Kasatkina won the semifinal in straight sets.
A Rough Spell for Konta
In many ways, it has been an incredible year for Johanna, who returned to the top 20 with some exceptional tennis. With back to back final appearances in the Morocco Open and Italian Open, she cemented her position as a formidable opponent to face.
Konta later reached the semifinal at the Wimbledon, all the more staking bolstering her form. It is worth mentioning that she achieved all of this after a rather slow, arduous start to the season.
However, things seem to be taking her back to that same rut. In her last two outings in Toronto and Cincinnati, she fell right in the early rounds to the likes of Dayana Yastremska and Rebecca Peterson.
Historically speaking, she never really had a solid record at any of those two US Open series events. And if we were to extend that analogy further, Konta has never made it past the fourth round at the Flushing Meadows. In fact, in her last two appearances here, the number 16 seed lost early in round one.

Kasatkina, Seeking a Change in Fortunes
Pegged as one of the rising stars on the WTA Tour, the 22-year-old Kasatkina quickly made a name for herself with exceptional runs in the Indian Wells Open, Wimbledon, French Open, and Dubai last year. But this time around, things have been completely opposite for her.
With a win-loss tally of 9-16, Kasatkina hasn’t quite been able to get a grip on the tour. Except for the Italian Open where she reached the third round, the Russian ace never managed to register more than one win in a tournament.
Her last couple of events were along the same lines, with early defeats in Toronto, as well as Cincinnati.

This match will be an interesting one for the books. Neither of the two players has been in a great form of late. While Konta will start as the favourite, this match can very well go either way.
