Petra Kvitova v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head
The two players have quite a history on the WTA Tour, going back as far as 2010. The head to head tally currently stands at 5-5, with their last meeting taking place in the 2018 Australian Open. Petkovic trumped on that occasion, registering her first win over Kvitova since 2011.
Kvitova, with a Solid Start
Kvitova arrived in New York with some concerns related to form and health, given that she was out of action for quite some time due to a lingering arm injury. Since her early exit in the Italian Open, her form has taken a small hit with disappointing spells in the Wimbledon and Cincinnati Open.
Now on the path to rebuilding her momentum and possibly, clinch the US Open title, she finds herself in a fairly easy bracket. Her tennis abilities clearly need no introduction, especially after the year she has had till now. Petkovic, On a Resurgent Path
The 31-year-old Petkovic arrived at the Flushing Meadows on the back of a rather poor form. In her last six outings, she has never made it past the early rounds/qualifiers. Moreover, she has bagged only four wins in the process, putting her overall strike rate at 16-21.
Once a top-10 player, the German has gone a massive transformation in terms of form through the years. Her last singles title was the Antwerp Open, which she won back in 2015. As for her run this season, the best she has done is reaching the third time at the French Open – the one and only time when she made it that far in any tournament in 2019.
Here in the US Open, Petkovic defeated Mihaela Buzarenscu in the opener – a player who has comparatively had a fairly better season than her.
