Madison Keys v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

The two ladies have met twice on the tour with the tally tied at one win each. They met as recently as the semifinal of the Cincinnati Open last week, where Keys won in straight sets.

Key Back in Top 10

The 24-year-old Madison Keys has an excellent track record in the US Open. She was the runner-up here in 2017 and last year, she made it to the semifinal. By the looks of it, she is most definitely on track to repeat that feat this time around too.

After having a rather dull time on the tour for the longest time this season, Keys finally found the right notes, just in time for the New York Grand Slam. She incurred a series of early losses in Wimbledon, Washington, and Toronto, before staging a winning run in the Cincinnati Open.

As the number 16 seed, she knocked out Garbine Muguruza, Simona Halep, Venus Williams, and Svetlana Kuznetsova to win her second title of the season. Earlier this season, she won the Charleston Open as well, making it her first singles title since the Stanford Classic back in 2017.

Determined to move up further in the rankings, Keys so far has knocked out Misaki Doi and Lin Zhu in straight sets. She has been ruthless and clinical here, which isn’t so surprising since Keys has always performed fairly well on these courts. Her strike rate stands at 21-11, truly making her a dangerous opponent.

Kenin, a Very Strong Competitor

The number 20 seed Sofia Kenin is just as ruthless as Keys in terms of tennis abilities and momentum. The 20-year-old has made it to three finals this season, winning two of them in Hobart and Mallorca. It has been a career-defining year for her as she is now at her best singles ranking as World No. 20.

In the build-up to the US Open, Kenin played in the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati where she reached the semifinal. In the two events combined, she defeated Ashleigh Barty, Elina Svitolina, and Naomi Osaka to register her best run of the season.

With 35 wins and 17 losses, she has been in an impressive form this season, working relentlessly hard. In the tournament up until now, she has sauntered past Coco Vandeweghe and Laura Siegemund in straight sets to set up the Keys clash.

Keys v Kenin Predictions & Tips

This is one match that is going to be too close to call. Both the players are in a brilliant form and have already proven that they can take on the big guns on their best day. Even the 1-1 tally in the head to head doesn’t do much to help us predict an outright winner. It wouldn’t be surprising if this one goes to three sets, but all in all, we are in for an epic, beautiful clash.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 7/5 (888Sport)
