Roger Federer v Grigor Dimitrov Preview & Tips:

Swiss legend Roger Federer and Bulgarian ‘Baby Fed’ Grigor Dimitrov have played seven times before with Federer winning on all occasions. With a playing style and a single handed backhand that is very similar to Federer’s, the match up has never favored the Bulgarian.

Roger Federer in search of his 21st major title had a slow start to the US Open with scratchy starts in both his first round matches, as he was looking to adapt to the conditions as well as perhaps recover from the heart-breaking Wimbledon final loss from championship points on his serve.

However, the Swiss turned it around in no time with convincing performances in his last two rounds, dropping only a total of nine games in the last rounds. With Novak Djokovic now out of the championship, Federer will fancy his chances at a title run here this coming weekend.

Grigor Dimitrov ended 2017 as world number three having won the ATP Tour Finals and looked set for a strong 2018 and onwards. But what followed was disappointing with a major slump in performance and several early round exits, resulting in him dropping to number 78 in the world.

The Bulgarian has made a good run at the US Open this year, aided by a favorable draw with Borna Coric withdrawing in his second round encounter and Kei Nishikori losing early among other outcomes.

Federer v Dimitrov Prediction: Federer to win three sets: 4/5 (888Sport)

Stanislas Wawrinka v Daniil Medvedev Preview & Tips:

Three-time Grand Slam winner Stanislas Wawrinka on a comeback trail, meets rising Russian Daniil Medvedev looking to stamp his authority on the ATP tour.

2016 US Open winner Stanislas Wawrinka was world number three in 2017, before prolonged knee injuries saw him take time off from the tour and fall out of the top 200 in the world. A difficult return to the tour resulted in several losses and further time-off in what remained a dismal 2018.

The never-say-die attitude of the Swiss saw him put up improved performances this season and be ranked just outside the top 20 at the start of the US Open. Wawrinka defeated world number one Novak Djokovic in the fourth round in what remains the biggest win of his comeback over the last two years. The Swiss was up two sets and a break before Djokovic retired due to recurring shoulder issues, but the level at which the 2016 champion was playing, it is hard to believe that many would have an answer.

Daniil Medvedev at age 23, has won the most number of matches this year on the tour including a sensational 18-2 run since Wimbledon qualifying for three finals consecutively and winning the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati.

Medvedev has continued his strong form on the hard courts at the US Open, despite dropping a set each in each of his last three rounds. While the Russian has had his share of temperamental issues this fortnight in dealing with crowd and other such, he has maintained his consistent level of play and continues to lead the ‘Next Gen’ at the moment.

Wawrinka v Medvedev Prediction: Five sets in the match: 3/1 (888Sport)
