Kiki Bertens v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, with Bertens winning on each occasion. Their first meeting came in the first round of the French Open in 2017, and then they met in the final of the Seoul Open last year.

Bertens Enjoying Successful Year

Bertens has had a successful 2019 so far, beginning in February when she won her eighth WTA career title in St. Petersburg, defeating Donna Vekic in the final.

She then went on to reach the semi-final in Stuttgary before securing the biggest win of her career, securing her first Premier Mandatory title in Madrid. En route she beat four previous Grand Slam winners, and became the first woman to win that prestigious title without dropping  a set.

That made her an early favourite for the French Open but illness derailed her progress at Roland Garros, and she was forced to pull out of her second round match. She then went on to lose two finals – to Alison Riske in s-Hertogenbosch and Jill Teichman in Palermo – and to reach the semi-final in Eastbourne.

The US Open was somewhat of a disappointment though, Seeded seven, she was beaten in the third round by Julia Goerges of Germany.

Tomljanovic, a Croatian-born Australian

World number 46 Tomljanovic is a Croatian born naturalised Australian, who has yet to a senior WTA title, although she has had some success on the ITF tour, where she has won four tournaments, although it has been more than six years since the last of those successes on the clay of Dothan in the United States.

This year, her best result on the senior tour came in Rabat, where she reached the semi-final only to lose to Johanna Konta of Great Britain. She also got to the quarter-finals in Brisbane at the start of the year, in front of her adopted home crowd.

More recently at the US Open, she won her first match against Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic, before losing in the second round to Anett Kontaveit of Estonia.

She began her campaign in Zhengzhou with a comfortable straight sets win over the Dutch qualifier Lesley Kerkhove.

Bertens v Tomljanovic Tips & Predictions

Bertens is the clear favourite to win this match at 10/21, whilst Tomljanovic is priced at 17/9. There is little in the Australian’s recent form to suggest that she can cause an upset here, and Bertens should win with ease.

Tip: Bertens to win in two sets: 1/1 (888Sport)
