Janko Tipsarevic v Damir Dzumhur Preview

Veterans Janko Tipsarevic and Damir Dzumhur meet in the first round at St.Petersburg in their first ever encounter.

Serbian Janko Tipsarevic on his farewell tour will look to rekindle some of the form and memories from when he was ranked in the top ten. Having announced his retirement from the tour recently, he hopes to play freely and provide the sort of match play and entertainment that tennis fans remember him every so fondly for.

2017 St.Petersburg champion Damir Dzumhur is a lucky loser, having lost his qualifier to Lukas Rosol, but having made the main section of the draw due to injury pull-outs last minute.

This should be a fun match between two players with contrasting playing styles. Dzumhur will be looking to rekindle his season with his gritty counterpuncher style, whereas Tipsarevic will be devoid of pressures and expectations and look to entertain and win. Expect Dzumhur to make the second round in three entertaining sets.

Tip: Dzumhur to win in three sets: 3/1 (888Sport)

Ilya Ivashka v Andrey Rublev Preview

Russian Andrey Rublev on a comeback trail from injury plays Belarusian qualifier Ilya Ivashka in his opening match at St.Petersburg

Rublev was a breakthrough ‘Next Gen’ player in 2017, whose career was stalled by injuries and indifferent form as a result in 2018. He has been on a comeback the second half of this season, defeating the likes of Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios, Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer during the US hard court season. He is ranked within the top 40 again and looking to push through for a strong end to the season, which will be aided by a good run here.

Belarusian Ivashka has primarily played ATP Challengers and is looking to break into the ATP main draw of tournaments with more consistency. He has made it through the qualifiers here with convincing wins and will look to continue the trend in tournaments to come.

Rublev has been in good form since after Wimbledon and will be spurred on by the Russian crowds. Expect him to move into the second round with a comfortable straight sets win.

Tip: Andrey Rublev to win in two sets: 1/1 (888Sport)

Lukas Rosol v Egor Gerasimov Preview

Czech veteran Lukas Rosol plays Belarusian Egor Gerasimov in their first ever meeting.

Rosol’s tennis has seen better days and the last two seasons have seen him fall in the rankings, without being able to maintain any level of consistency nor gain any momentum.

Gerasimov is a better know player on the ATP Challenger level, but was able to get past the qualifiers of a major for the first time this year, making the second round of the US Open.

The Belarusian will look to make the most of the opportunity and aim for more consistency on the ATP circuit, but this will be a good opportunity for Rosol to gain some confidence back without stiff completion. A tight two-set victory for the Czech seems the most likely outcome.

Tip: Lukas Rosol to win in two sets: 6/4 (888Sport)
