Stefanos Tsitsipas v Taylor Fritz Head to Head

The pair have met twice before, four years ago when they were both juniors. Fritz beat the Greek at the French Open, and again at the US Open three months later.

Tsitsipas, Disappointments After Early Season Promise

Tistsipas had an excellent start to the year, reaching the semi-finals in Melbourne, and then winning his second career title in Marseille. He reached the final in Dubai, secured his second tournament victory of the year in Estoril, and made the final yet again in Madrid.

That run of results helped him climb into the top ten, and there was even talk of him becoming a potential dark horse for the Grand Slams. However, it has not quite panned out that way.

He did get to the fourth round in Roland Garros, but crashed out in the first round at Wimbledon. He got to the semi-finals in Washington, but then suffered another disappointment in Flushing Meadows, losing in the first round yet again.

This is his first event since then

Fritz, Strong Year for the American

21-year-old Fritz began the year ranked at 66 in the world, but he has surged up the rankings based on a string of impressive performances, beginning in Melbourne where he got to the third round. He then won the Challenger event in Newport Beach, and made the semi-finals in Lyon, before finally winning his first ATP career title in Eastbourne, where he beat compatriot Sam Querry in the final.

Two more finals followed – at Atlanta and Los Cabos, Mexico – and, although he lost them both, he is now established as the second highest ranked American player, after John Isner.

Like Tsitsipas, he was knocked out in the first round at the US Open.

Tsitsipas v Fritz Predictions & Tips

Tsitsipas is the odds-on favourite to win this match at 4/7, whilst Fritz is priced at 16/11. Fritz did win the two matches between these two players when they were juniors, but a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then and, playing on European soil, Tsitsipas should have the edge.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 6/5 (888Sport)
