Borna Coric v Joao Sousa Head to Head

The pair have  played each other once before on the grass at Halle earlier this year, with Coric winning a tense three set battle on a third set tie-break.

Coric, Ready for First Final After Injury Problems

Coric now has an excellent chance to make his first final of the year, which will be a major boost to him having been forced to miss so much of the second half of the season because of a persistent back injury.

Earlier in the year, he had hinted at more to come after getting to the fourth round in Melbourne, reaching the semi-finals in Dubai and s-Hertogenbosch, and the quarters in Miami and Monte Carlo.

However, injury forced him to pull out of Halle, and then miss Wimbledon altogether. And then it truncated his challenge for the US Open, forcing him to withdraw before his second round match.

It was perhaps ironic that injury forced his second round opponent, Marton Fucsovics of Hungary, to abandon their second round match mid-way through, but Coric was able to prove his own fitness by coming through a three set contest with Casper Ruud of Norway in their quarter-final on Friday.

Sousa, Conqueror of Khachanov into Semi-Final

Sousa caused a major upset on Thursday when he knocked the number two seed and local favourite, Karen Khachanov out of the tournament in straight sets. He followed that up on Friday with another comfortable win over former tournament winner, Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan, again in straight sets.

He is now in his second semi-final of the year, having also got to that stage in Gstaad,  which, alongside his appearance in the fourth round of Wimbledon, represented his previous best performance of what has largely been a disappointing year for the Portuguese number one.

Coric v Sousa Predictions & Tips

Coric is the favourite to win this match at 29/50, whilst Sousa is priced at 71/50. Both will regard this as a major chance to reach an ATP final and perhaps win the tournament, but Coric, after all his problems, may just want it more.

Tip: Coric to win in three sets: 6/5 (888Sport)
