Bencic v Kudermetova Head to Head
At the moment, the 22-year-old Kudermetova holds a 2-1 lead over Bencic, last defeating her in the St. Petersburg Open earlier this season. By then, the Russian had extended her lead over the Swiss to 2-0. A few months later in Eastbourne, the two ladies met once again and there, Bencic finally got a win over Kudermetova.
Bencic Back in the Top 10
After struggling with her form for the last couple of seasons, Belinda Bencic is finally back into the top 10. The Swiss rose to prominence back in 2015, when she won the Canadian Open and WTA Eastbourne but since then, has undergone quite a massive slump in her form.
She spent the next three years fighting with her lack of consistency – an unfortunate trait which saw her slip out of the top 30, exacerbated only by her lack of singles title. However, with some determination and quality tennis, Bencic has managed to turn all of it around in 2019.
Right off the bat, she won the WTA Dubai – her first title since 2015 – by defeating Petra Kvitova in the final. In the same tournament, she also moved past the likes of Elina Svitolina, Simona Halep, and Aryna Sabalenka. Then, she reached the quarterfinal in the Indian Wells Open and WTA Charleston, and later was the runner-up in the Mallorca Open.
Her best run, however, came a couple of weeks back in the US Open, where she reached her maiden Grand Slam semifinal. It was quite an inspiring performance by the 22-year-old, who defeated the likes of Anett Kontaveit, Naomi Osaka, and Donna Vekic to make it to the semis.

Kudermetova, With a Chance to Make an Impression
Veronika Kudermetova of Russia started the tournament as a qualifier. Having made it to the main draw, she dispatched Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets in the opener to set up this clash with Bencic.
With a win-loss tally of 39-22, the 22-year-old has worked pretty hard this season to build her form. She has had a couple of inspiring performances, most notably in the Libema Open and Japan Open, where she reached the semifinal. With that, Kudermetova has also reached the quarterfinal on a few other occasions.
At the same time, she hasn’t got a lot of experience against the top 10 players but has the necessary skill set to put up a good fight.
Bencic v Kudermetova Tips & Predictions
While Bencic will start this match as the favourite, anything can pretty much happen here. Kudermetova has the edge here in the form of a 2-1 lead while the Swiss just had a phenomenal run in the US Open. Moreover, World No. 10 is just starting her Asian swing and it will be interesting to see how she fares in her first match in this part of the world.
