Ricardas Berankis v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head

Berankis and Shapovalov are currently tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head. The Lithuania claimed the bragging rights in the most recent meeting when he ousted the former junior Wimbledon champion at the first hurdle at this year’s championships.

Berankis Has Captured Four Challenger Titles In 2019

When it comes to Challenger-leading achievements in 2019, nobody comes close to Ricardas Berankis. The Lithuanian captured his fourth title in Vancouver shortly before the US Open to hold the record for the most titles of any player at the Challenger circuit this season.

The 29-year-old is currently enjoying his best-ever season on tour in terms of results and achievements and he is inching ever closer to equal his career-high ranking of World No.50 which he attained in 2016 which was also built on success on the Challenger tour.

But it is not only on the second-tier of the tour that Berankis has recorded his biggest achievements this year as he has also had some notable results on the main tour. The Lithuanian shocked Daniil Medvedev in the first round in Dubai when he entered the tournament as a qualifier and beat the Russian in straight sets. He tamed Denis Shapovalov in the first round at Wimbledon too, but the pair will square off again.

Shapovalov Failed To Break New Ground At Laver Cup

Team World failed to win an opening day singles match in the first two Laver Cup installments and Denis Shapovalov ensured that pattern would continue as he lost to Dominic Thiem

The 20-year-old also lost in doubles along with Jack Sock as Team World came up short in their bid to win their first Laver Cup.

But attention will turn to Chengdu this week as Shapovalov aims to win his first career tour-level title. The young Canadian has had a slightly better summer during the North American hard-court swing, having reached the semifinals at Winston-Salem and the third round of the US Open where he lost to eventual quarter-finalist Gael Monfils in a dramatic five-setter.

Shapovalov’s upturn in form will certainly put him in good stead to revenge his devastating loss to Berankis in the first round at Wimbledon.

Berankis v Shapovalov Predictions & Tips

Berankis has been on a hot streak at Challenger level, but he hasn’t quite transformed those results on the main tour. Although he has sporadically claim an upset or two this year at tour-level, one would suspect this will be a tough outing against a rejuvenated Shapovalov.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 11/10 (888Sport)
