Dominic Thiem v Richard Gasquet Head to Head

The pair have met twice before, with Gasquet winning on each occasion.  His first victory came at Basel in 2015, and his second in Vienna two years later.

Thiem Hoping to Find Earlier Season Form

The 26 year old Austrian has had a mixed 2019 season, very good in the first part, but less successful in the second. He began the year by winning the biggest title of his career, the Indian Wells Masters, and then followed by up clinching the Madrid Open, bearing Rafael Nadal on the way.

That run culminated in Paris when he reached his second successive French Open final, only to lose to his nemesis Nadal yet again.

Since that, good results have been harder to come by, although he did win his third title of the year in front of his home fans in Kitzbuhel.  However, he was knocked out at the first time of asking in Cincinnati and the US Open, and has seen Daniil Medvedev overtake him in the world rankings.

Gasquet’s Season Affected by Injury

Although Gasquet has won 15 career titles, the last of those was in s-Hertogenbosch in 2018, and he is no longer quite the force he was a decade ago when he regularly featured in the top ten.

His participation in the early part of the season was restricted by a hernia injury, and he did not play until the Madrid Open in May. Since then he has achieved two semi-finals – at s-Hertogenbosch again, and at the Cincinnati Masters, where he was beaten by David Goffin of Belgium.

Like his opponent, he lost in the first round at the US Open, with his last tournament coming in Metz, where he was beaten in the second round by his compatriot Benoit Paire.

Thiem v Gasquet Predictions & Tips

Thiem is the marginal favourite to win this match at 5/6, whilst Gasquet is priced at 6/5. Gasquet has won the two previous meetings between these two men, but since then, Thiem has developed into a top-five player, whilst Gasquet has slipped down the rankings. The number one seed should win, but the Frenchman could make him work for his victory.

Tip: Thiem to win in straight sets: 6/4 (888Sport)
