Miomir Kecmanovic v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head

These two NextGen stars have played each other once and it was Shapovalov who claimed victory at Winston-Salem a month ago.

Kecmanovic Desperate To Hold On His Spot In The Race To Milan

Miomir Kecmanovic’s transition into the senior ranks of the main tour has been less rapid as compared to that of his contemporaries, but he is losing no sleep about it. The Serbian youngster who is a former junior World No.1 and looking to follow the footsteps of fellow countryman and the current leader of men’s tennis Novak Djokovic, has made significant progress since losing the US Open junior final in 2016.

Kecmanovic was ranked outside the world’s Top 100 as recently as March, but a quarterfinal run at the Indian Wells Masters saw him shoot inside the Top 100 and he has never looked back.

During the past three months his results have been soaring. He reached his maiden tour-level final in Antalya and then made the quarterfinal in Atlanta. At Cincinnati Masters he recorded his first-ever top-10 scalp of his career when he beat World No.6 Alexander Zverev en route to the Round of 16.

As a result of his steady rise, the 20-year-old is inching ever closer towards qualification at the Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan. He is currently ranked 7th in the race.

Shapovalov Brings Momentum To Tokyo

Denis Shapovalov reached his third ATP tour semifinal of the year at the Chengdu Open and lost the eventual champion Pablo Carreno Busta. As a result of that fine week in China, the young Canadian improved his chances of securing a place at Next Gen ATP Finals in November.

Shapovalov who is currently ranked 4th in the Race to Milan, fell short in his bid to reach a maiden tour-level final. His previous two semifinal appearances this year also led him to lose to the eventual champion (Miami lost to Federer, and Winston-Salem lost to Hukacz).

For much of his fledgling career, Shapovalov has been so inconsistent and this season has been no different. However, he is arriving in Tokyo in the best possible shape both in terms of form and consistency.

Kecmanovic v Shapovalov Predictions & Tips

Shapovalov is in very good form coming into this match and the odd-makers have taken notice, pricing him at 2/5 for the win. The Canadian also won handily in his previous meeting against Kecmanovic at Winston-Salem which was just a month ago. I expect Shapovalov to stroll again in this one

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 10/11 (888Sport)
