Grigor Dimitrov v Andrey Rublev Head to Head

Both the players have faced each other on three occasions so far. Rublev won their first meeting at the US Open in 2017 and Dimitrov has prevailed on the other two occasions when the pair met at the Australian Open & the Rotterdam Open last year.

Grigor Dimitrov: Looking to use US Open Results as a Springboard

In 2017, Grigor Dimitrov had a dream run with an incredible 49-19 win-loss record and four titles to his name. He reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open where he lost to Rafael Nadal in five sets. His ranking at one point of time was as high as number three in the world.

When he won the Masters Cup at the end of that year, everyone considered him to be the next first time Grand Slam winner.

After an impressive start to the 2018 campaign, he lost consistency and form so severely that last month’s semifinal run at the US Open was his first tournament where he reached the final four since April 2018, a run of 31 tournaments.

His world ranking fell to as low as 78 this year and his inspired run at the Flushing Meadows might provide him a confidence boost that he badly needed after a difficult couple of seasons.

He reached the second round at Beijing last year, and he will hope to continue his excellent form this week to finally end a long wait for another title on the tour.

Andrey Rublev: Signs of Recovering his 2017 Form

Similar to Dimitrov, 2017 was a breakout year for the young Russian, Rublev. He won his first title in Croatia that year and reached the quarter-finals at the US Open as well reached the finals at the ATP next-generation finals. From starting the year outside the top 150, he achieved career-high 31 in 2018 before an unfortunate back injury kept him out of most of the remaining season.

His comeback was also added with multiple early-round exits and disappointing losses, and it took him until the Hamburg Open this year to regain some form. After reaching the finals at Hamburg, he reached quarterfinals at three of the next four tournaments while the fourth being a run till the round of 16 at the US Open last month.

He finally seems to be regaining the sort of form that brought him some impressive victories a couple of years ago he will be looking to improve on his second-round exit at Beijing from last year.
