Diego Schwartzman is considered to be a clay-court specialist with more than 82% of his career victories have come on the red clay. For someone who is so heavily surface dependent, his performance on hard courts this year has been pretty impressive.
His only title this season came on the hard courts at Los Cabos. He also reached the round of 16 at Cincinnati and the last eight at the US Open.
He has won more matches on hard courts this year then on clay, the first time in his career. Last year he went out in the opening round in Shanghai. If he progresses further this year, the Argentine is likely to face third seed Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16.

Once ranked as high as 25 in the world, Pospisil suffered a career-threatening back injury last year. Since then, he has had to undergo surgery and eight months on the sidelines. Even his comeback has been frilled with niggling injuries hampering his progress. Currently ranked 245 in the world, this is only his 13th match of the season.
Despite a disappointing season, Pospisil showed some glimpses of his talent by taking out world number 9 Karen Khachanov in the first round at the US Open.
Last year Pospisil qualified for the main draw in Shanghai after coming through the qualifying rounds but couldn’t progress further. This year he will be hoping for a better run so that he can gain points and climb back the rankings.

Schwartzman is a clay-court specialist with his game heavily dependent upon the topspin he generates from his shots. On the other hand, Pospisil prefers the harder, faster courts so that he can control the game from the baseline. In an ideal world, the Canadian would be a firm favorite for the match.
But given an impressive showing on the surface from the Argentine & Pospisil still finding his feet after a long injury lay off, Schwartzman has the advantage, according to me.
