Belinda Bencic v Anna-Lena Friedsam Head to Head

The two ladies have met only once on the tour, back in the 2015 Wimbledon. Bencic won that meeting in three sets.

Bencic, Looking to Cap a Phenomenal Year

2019 has been a remarkable year for the 22-year-old Bencic, who rose to prominence once again after struggling with her form the last couple of seasons. Once a top 10 player, the Swiss is back at those levels and now, looks primed to go even further next year.

With a win-loss tally of 44-19, Bencic is now hoping to add yet another feather to her cap. Having won her first title since the Canadian Open 2015 earlier this year in Dubai, she broke into the top 30 and built on that momentum further. In Dubai, she defeated some big guns like Aryna Sabalenka, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina, and Petra Kvitova.

Then, she reached the semifinal in Indian Wells, Madrid Open, and the US Open, which was also her such maiden Grand Slam appearance. Between these events, she was also a finalist in Mallorca. In Asia, however, she didn’t have that good of a run with early exits in the Wuhan Open and China Open. Back in Europe now, Bencic will eager or rather, certain of getting back to her winning ways.

Friedsam Fresh Off ITF Runs

The 25-year-old German is heading into this fixture after a couple of inspiring runs on the ITF circuit. Friedsam reached back to back finals in the ITF event in Roehampton, going the distance in one of them. As for her run on the whole this year, it hasn’t been that overwhelming with a below-average performance.

Currently ranked in the 160s, the best run Friedsam has had on the WTA Tour is reaching the quarterfinal in Palermo and the third round in WTA Eastbourne. Having spent a majority of her season dealing with exits in the early rounds, the German hasn’t had the best of the years.

In Linz, she is starting as a qualifier after defeating Caty McNally and Shelby Rogers in her qualifying rounds.

Bencic v Friedsam Tips & Predictions

Expect Bencic to win this match comfortably in straight sets. Friedsam, despite having some experience, hasn’t got the momentum needed to go the distance here.

Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match 41/50 at 888Sport
