Donna Vekic v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

The pair have never faced each other before. This will be their first-ever meeting on the WTA tour.

Vekic Looking to Find her Consistency Again

23-year-old Croat has had a solid season so far. She achieved a career-high 21 ranking this year on the back of some impressive performances at Saint Petersburg and Nottingham, where she was the runners up. She also had an impressive run at the US Open, where she reached the last eight before losing out to Belinda Bencic.

Though she has not been able to add to her two titles on the WTA tour this year, she has beaten some big names this year like Madison Keys, Kiki Bertens, Johanna Konta, and Petra Kvitova. This shows a marked improvement in her game where she has added more power and strength to her shots, which have helped her against prominent opponents.

The only downside this year has been her dip in form on the Asian hard court swing. Since the US Open, she has gone out in the opening two rounds at all the four events she has played in Asia. This is her fourth appearance in Moscow, with her failing to go past the opening round in all her three previous visits.

Muchova Looking to Continue her Impressive Season-Ending Run

23-year-old Czech’s season has improved as it has gone on. Her season started with an impressive quarter-final run at the Doha Open. Muchova came extremely close to winning her maiden WTA title at Prague, where she lost to Belen Teichmann in three sets.

She followed it up with a quarter-final appearance at the Wimbledon and finally broke her title duck by winning at the Seoul Open last month.

She is currently number 35 in the rankings, her highest ever. After a minor blip at Beijing, she took a couple of weeks off from the tour. She came back in style with a straight-sets victory over former world number two Svetlana Kuznetsova.

With confidence and from behind her, she will fancy her chances this week.

Donna Vekic v Karolina Muchova Predictions & Tips

Bencic has had a better year between the two with regards to consistency of performances. But she has lost form and rhythm at a crucial stage. On the other hand, Muchova goes into this match high on confidence in winning her first-ever title. Muchova’s record this year on the hard court has been 23-8 win-loss compared to 19-13 of Bencic.

Despite Bencic being higher in the rankings, Muchova goes into the match slightly favorite.
