Denis Shapovalov v Alexei Popyrin Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first encounter on court between the two 20-year olds.

Shapovalov Hoping for Late Season Success

Shapovalov would like to put some late season gloss on what, has, otherwise, been a disappointing year for the 20-year old. A semi-final appearance at the Madrid Masters appeared to promise much, but a loss of form, and inconsistency, means he has failed to build on that, and he has had to watch as friend, and rival, Felix Auger-Aliassime, has overtaken him and succeeded Milos Raonic as Canada’s number one player.

He has had his chances to go further – he got to the semi-finals in both Winston-Salem and Chengdu, but has always fallen short on the big occasion.

Last week at the Shanghai Masters he was beaten in the second round by Novak Djokovic.

Popyrin Yet to Show Junior Form on Senior Tour

Winner of the French Open in 2017 as a junior, Popyrin has yet to enjoy the same level of success on the senior ATP tour, although he did win the Challenger event in Jinan, China last August.

This year, his two best performances have come in Grand Slam events – he reached the third round in Melbourne before going down to Lucas Pouille of France, and repeated the feat at Flushing Meadows, where he lost to Matteo Berrettiini. He also reached the quarter finals in Atlanta where he was beaten by Cameron Norrie of Great Britain.

Prior to Stockholm, he lost in straight sets to Novak Djokovic in Japan, but he got off to a winning start in Sweden by beating the German Oscar Otte, although it took him two tie-breaks to do so.

Shapovalov v Popyrin Predictions & Tips

Shapovalov is the odds-on favourite to win at 4/11, whilst Popyrin is priced at 2/1. Whilst Shapovalov has not been in the best of form this year, he should still have enough in his all-round game to beat the Australian.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 10/11 (888Sport)
