Nikoloz Basilashvili v Radu Albot Head to Head

The pair have met once before, in  the first round of the Shanghai Masters, just a few weeks ago, Basilashvili coming from a set down to win in three.

Basilashvili, Defended His Hamburg Title

Last year Basilashvili became the first Georgian since Alex Metrevelli to win a senior ATP title, when he entered the Hamburg Open as a qualifier, and then went to clinch the final. He then claimed victory in the China Open as well.

This year, he successfully defended his title in Hamburg, his best performance of the year so far, although he did make the quarter final in Doha at the start of the year, as well as the last eight in Dubai and then in Budapest, but has not enjoyed the best of form in recent months.

He reached the second round in Beijing, and the third at the Shanghai Masters, beating Albot in the process. However, last week he went out in the first round of the Vienna Open to Fernando Verdasco of Spain.

Albot, Flying the Flag for Moldova

In February this year, Albot made his own personal piece of history, when he became the first Moldovan to win a senior ATP title, when he beat Dan Evans of Great Britain in the final at Delray Beach in America.

Subsequent to that he reached the semi-finals in Montpellier, Geneva, and Los Cabos, Mexico.

Since then he has found wins harder to come by – he was beaten in the first round in Montreal, Flushing Meadows, Chengdu and Shanghai, and the second in Cincinnati and Japan. He did win his first match in Basel last week, but then came up against Roger Federer in the second round and, although he played his part in an entertaining match, was given a serving masterclass by the Swiss player.

Basilashvili v Albot Predictions & Tips

Basilashvili is the odds on favourite to win this match at 8/15, whilst Albot is priced at 16/11. Given that Basilashvili is ranked 23 places higher than Albot, and won their only previous meeting just a few weeks ago, he rightly starts as favourite, although neither man is in the best of form right now.
