Jeremy Chardy v Christian Garin Head to Head
The pair have played each other four times before, and Chardy leads their head to head series by three matches to one. Chardy won their first two matches at Vina del Mar, Chile, in 2013 and 2014, and their most recent match at Bastad in July. Garin, though, did beat him en route to victory at the Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston in April.
Chardy, Shock Winner over Medvedev
32-year old Chardy pulled off one of the biggest wins of his career on Tuesday night when he snapped the long winning run of the world number four, Daniil Medvedev, to reach the third round of the Paris Masters for the first time. Facing a man who had played in six consecutive titles. and won the last two Masters events, in Cincinnati and Shanghai, Chardy fought back from losing the first set in front of a highly vocal and partisan home crowd.
In the process he saved 14 out of the 15 break points he faced, including one as he served for the match in the tenth game of the third set. His victory ended a losing sequence against top ten players that stretched back to Miami in 2018 when he beat Dominic Thiem.

Garin Edged Out Isner to Get to Round Three
Garin also produced something of a surprise in his second round match, edging out the number 15 seed, the big serving American, John Isner. That was despite being subject to a barrage of aces, with Isner serving twenty-five to his six.
However, his own serve was very consistent, and he proved to be much more effective on his second serve than his opponent.
In the end it came down to fine margins. Although they both converted one of the break points they fashioned, when it came to the tie-breaks, Garin just managed to seize the initiative each time, and advanced to the third round, equalling his previous best at a Masters event, achieved at the Rogers Cup in July earlier this year.

Chardy is the favourite to win this match at 63/100, whilst Garin is priced at 119/100. Garin is actually the higher ranked player, but Chardy has a better head-to-head record and will be buoyed by the support of the Paris crowd. That should inspire him to reach the quarter-finals.
