Miomir Kecmanovic v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

The pair have never played before – this will be the first meeting between the Serb, and the Spaniard, who is two months older than him.

Kecmanovic’s Victory Followed by Setback against De Minaur

Kecmanovic needs to beat the Spaniard on Thursday to virtually guarantee his place in the semi-finals, although technically he could still progress if he lost, and Casper Ruud did as well, in which case the format of the competition would come down to the number of sets and games won.

After beating Ruud in straight sets on Tuesday, the Serb found the top seed and tournament favourite Alex de Minaur too hot to handle on Wednesday. The Australian established an early lead, taking the first set for the loss of just one game,, and, although the second set was tighter, going to a tie-break, last year’s defending champion got a mini-break and consolidated it to take a clear two set advantage.

Kecmanovic did briefly threaten a comeback in the third set, breaking the Australian’s serve twice, but all hopes of a revival were snuffed out in the fourth, which de Minaur won by four games to love.

Davidovich Fokina Showed Fighting Spirit Again Against Ruud

The least experienced of all the competitors in Milan this week, and somebody who only got into the event because of injuries to others, Davidovich Fokina has by no means disgraced himself, and has shown a lot of spirit in his two matches so far, even if both of them ended in defeats.

On Tuesday, he levelled his match with de Minaur at one set all, and even was a break ahead in the third, before the Australian upped his tempo and the power of his shots.  And then, on Wednesday, against Ruud, he took the first set, and when the Norwegian took the next two, he had enough resolve to fight back and level the match again.  In the end Ruud proved too strong in the fifth, but the Spaniard can still feel pride in his performances.

Kecmanovic v Davidovich Fokina Predictions & Tips

Kecmanovic is the favourite to win this match at 5/7, whilst Davidovich Fokina is priced at 3/1. Kecmanovic has the greater incentive to win because victory would virtually guarantee him a semi-final spot, whilst, even if the Spaniard were to beat him, he would probably fall short in terms of sets and games won. Expect another Serb win, but for the Spaniard to go down fighting.
