The pair have only met once before on tour. The Serbian won in straight sets on the grass courts of the Boodles Tennis Challange.
Djokovic Looks Ready for the Australian Open
After coming through a tough opening match against Kevin Anderson, Djokovic looked in much better rhythm in his second match. He made quick work of the Frenchman Gael Monfils winning in straight sets. Apart from winning his singles match, he also paired up with Viktor Troicki beat Nicolas Mahut and Edouard Roger-Vasselin and take Serbia to the quarter-finals.
His performances have steadily improved with every match that he has played so far this season. He began this year with a loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Mubadala Exhibition. Three matches later he looks back in form and free from any sort of trouble with his elbow.
Djokovic will be chasing his 17th Grand Slam this year starting with the Australian Open. He has won it seven times in his career and he would be looking to make it eight.
Garin Heading Towards his Third Loss of the Tournament
The 23-year-old Chilean has lost both of his matches so far in the tournament in straight sets. Both Gael Monfils and Kevin Anderson were far too good for him and the challenge will only get tougher with Djokovic up next. His team Chile is bottom of thegGroup after losing against France and South Africa.
Garin had an up and down 2019 in terms of the results he achieved. He won his maiden title at Houston and then added another trophy by winning at Munich. His most noteworthy achievement was to reach the quarter-finals at the Paris Masters. But his performances on the hard courts left much to desire and he couldn’t really go deep into many more events.
Currently sitting at 33 in the world rankings, Garin will have to improve his game on the hard courts big time if he wants to sustain or has ambitions of breaking into the top 20. But first up he would do well to hold his own against Djokovic and give his team an unlikely victory in the tournament.

It is difficult to look past Djokovic for this tie. Despite the fate of both the teams already being sealed, even a Djokovic taking it easy would be too much for Garin to handle. The Chilean looks out of depth on the faster courts and the match is likely to end very quickly.
