Petra Kvitova v Katerina Siniokova Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, in the final in Prague in 2018, and in Dubai last year. Kvitova won on both occasions.

Kvitova, a 2019 Melbourne Finalist

Last year, Kvitova came very close to winning her third Grand Slam title when she got to the final in this event, only to lose in three sets to Naomi Osaka.

2019 was a mixed year for the Czech woman – she won two WTA titles in Sydney and Stuttgart, and lost to Belinda Bencic in the final of Dubai, but injury problems hampered her progress, and she actually slipped down the rankings, from number two at the start of the year, to number seven at the end.

Off the court, she also had to undergo the trial, and eventual imprisonment, of the burglar who broke into her home in 2017, and severely injured her left hand. Her first tournament of this year was the Brisbane International, where she got to the semi-finals between losing in three sets to Madison Keys.

Siniokova, a Grand Slam Doubles Winner

The world number 57, Siniokova has won two WTA singles titles, both in 2017 – at Shenzen and then, later that same year, the Swedish Open.

However, it is on the doubles court that she has had her greatest triumphs. In 2017, together with Lucie Hradecka, she was the beaten finalist in the US Open. A year later, this time partnered by Barbara Krejcikova, she won the French Open and Wimbledon, and ended the year as the world’s number one doubles player. The two also were beaten finalists in the season-ending WTA finals.

More recently, they won the Canadian Masters doubles title last year.

Her last appearance in a singles final came at the Shenzen Open last year, when she was beaten by Simona Halep. However, two weeks ago, she went out this time at the first round stage in Shenzen, beaten by the eventual winner, Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia.
