Diego Schwartzman v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

It will be a first career meeting between these two players.

Schwartzman Back to Melbourne After ATP Cup

Diego Schwartzman and Team Argentina would be pleased of their performances from the recently concluded ATP Cup in which they were eliminated in the quarterfinals by a very strong Russian team.

The diminutive 27-year-old was key in steering his country to the last eight, needing a minor miracle in the last round of group stage matches. Schwartzman beat Croatia’s Borna Coric to confirm Argentina’s progress, and although that was the only win he registered at the tournament, it is worth pointing out he came up against quality opposition in his singles rubbers (lost to Medvedev, Thiem and Hurkacz).

Attention will now shift to Melbourne where Schwartzman’s best result is a fourth round appearance in 2018. He has re-entered the world’s top-15 for the first time in 18 months thanks to his brilliant second half of 2019 in which he won his first hard court title in Los Cabos and reached the US Open quarterfinals.

Harris Emulating Countryman Anderson

Africa isn’t considered a top tennis continent, but over the last five years, Kevin Anderson has achieved landmarks and significant wins to re-establish its presence to the tennis world.

Anderson’s compatriot Lloyd Harris is now aiming to follow his footsteps and make his mark on ATP tour. The 22-year-old spent majority of his teenage years travelling across Africa, searching for a tournament to prove he was a good tennis player.

Harris is now in the form of his life. Currently ranked at No.91 in the world (slightly lower from his career-high No.82), he made his first-ever tour-level final at the Inaugural Adelaide International on Saturday.

Having entered the event as a qualifier, he took out three ATP titlists in Cristian Garin, Laslo Djere and Pablo Carreno Busta. Although he suffered a chastening experience in the final, going out in under an hour to Andrey Rublev, it was a week to remember for the newest South African finalist.

Harris will make his fifth successive main draw appearance in a Grand Slam, but he has recorded just a single win.

Diego Schwartzman v Lloyd Harris Predictions & Tips

This doesn’t seem to be a potential banana skin as the odds suggest. Harris has modeled his game to that of fellow countryman Anderson, with his biggest weapon being the serve and he will likely need a serving masterclass to earn free points. Schwartzman is a terrific returner though and he will indeed wear him down over the course of a five-set match.
