After reaching the third qualification round at the US Open last year, he has managed to reach the main draw at a Grand Slam in Melbourne. Currently ranked number 196 in the world, the Spaniard will be hoping to play a lot more on the ATP tour and try to break into the top 100 in rankings this season.
His entry into the main draw was bit of a surprise after he was crushed in the first round of the only tournament he played before that this year. Featuring at the Noumea Challenger, Martinez bowed out in straight sets in the opener before he won three on the bounce to make it to the main draw here.
