Caroline Wozniacki v Kristie Ahn Head to Head

This will be the first time that the former Australian Open winner Wozniacki will be taking on the 92nd-ranked American at the highest level.

Wozniacki Hoping to Go Deeper into Final Tournament

The Dane has announced her retirement from tennis at the end of this Australian Open and the one-time winner at Melbourne Park would love to go deep into the competition. And the good news for Wozniacki is despite not being seeded in the competition this year, she starts off against an unseeded player too and one who is ranked more than 60 places behind her.

Wozniacki did feature in Auckland in the first week to try and get a hang of things in the new season. She played in both, the singles and doubles draw, making it to the semifinal in the former and final of the latter. The former Aussie Open winner got past Lauren Davis in the second round before crushing the two-time defending champion Julia Goerges in the quarterfinals.

It was Jessica Pegula who came back from a set down to get past the Dane in the semis.

She partnered with Serena Williams in the doubles draw, winning three matches in a row in straight sets to make the final before the pair lost to Asia Muhammad and Taylor Townsend. Either ways, the Auckland showing would have given Wozniacki a lot of confidence coming into the Australian Open.

Ahn Looking for a US Open-Like Return

After years of trying to break into the big league, Ahn’s fourth round appearance at the US Open took her close to her career-best ranking on the circuit. She is currently ranked 92nd in the world, which allowed her a direct entry into the Australian Open, a tournament she has played just once before this in the main draw.

That fourth round at Flushing Meadows aside, Ahn also made it to the quarterfinals at the Seoul Open but her start to 2020 hasn’t been much to write about. She lost in the first qualifying round at Auckland and then won one match in the Hobart qualifiers before going down in the next.

Which is why things might not get any easier for the American here, going into this opening round match against a former champion. She will have to dig really deep to try and get a set past Wozniacki.
