Denis Shapovalov v Vasek Pospisil Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before on the senior tour, and that was a few weeks ago in Auckland, with Shapovalov winning that match in straight sets. They also met once on the Challenger circuit in Guadalaja, Mexico in 2017, Shapovalov again winning in two sets.

Shapovalov Keen to Recover from Melbourne Disappointment

Shapovalov broke his ATP title drought, winning his maiden event in Stockholm in October. He then reached his first Masters final a month later, losing to Novak Djokovic in Paris. A strong subsequent showing in the Davis Cup left him full of hope for 2020.

And he then performed strongly for Canada in the ATP, with wins over two top ten players in the group phases, beating both Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece, and Alexander Zverev of Germany, and hinting at more to come.

However, he then lost in the second round of the Adelaide Open to Ugo Humbert of France, and suffered the immense disappointing of a first round loss in the Australian Open, beaten in four sets by the Hungarian, Marton Fucsovics.

Have Pospisil’s Best Days Come and Gone?

29-year-old Pospisil’s best performances came back in 2014, when he reached a career high of 25 in the world, reached the third round of the Australian Open, and won the Wimbledon doubles title with Jack Sock of the USA. A year later he was a quarter-finalist at the All-England club.

Those days seem long distant now, and, despite winning two Challenger titles in 2019, in Las Vegas and Charlottesville, he has now slumped to 153 in the rankings.

He began his year in Auckland where he qualified for the main draw, only to lose to Shapovalov in the first round. He was then beaten in the first round in Melbourne by the veteran Croat Ivo Karlovic, but advanced to the second round here by beating Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in straight sets in their first round match on Monday.

Denis Shapovalov v Vasek Pospisil Predictions & Tips

This should be a comfortable win for Shapovalov over his compatriot, as the 20-year-old looks to shrug off the disappointment of Melbourne with a strong run in Montpellier.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
