Qiang Wang v Leonie Kung Head to Head

This will be the first-ever meeting between the pair.

Wang Continues Her Impressive Start to the Season

Wang is currently on an impressive run of form having has won five our of her last six matches. In this period she has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, beaten Serena Williams and has only lost to Ons Jabeur of Tunisia. With the second seed Petra Martic suffering an early exit from the tournament, she must be eyeing to win her third career title this week. The only higher seed remaining in the draw is Svitolina Elina.

2019 was a year of new highs for the Chinese number one. She reached her first-ever Grand Slam quarter-finals at the US Open and reached as high as 12 in the rankings last September. A poor finish to the season and injuries did take some sheen away from her year but an overall solid year meant she finished a second consecutive year inside the world top 30.

This is the first time she is participating in the event. And she will be hoping to recover some ranking points and break back into the top 20 rankings.

Tireless Kung on Her Best Career Run this Week

With the season hardly being over a month old, the 19-year-old Swiss woman has already played 26 matches across singles and doubles categories this year. After reaching two ITF event semifinals, she started this week via the qualifying rounds.

This was, in fact, her first main draw appearance at a WTA event in over two years. She has won all of her four matches in straight sets, beating the world number 70 Lin Zhu in the previous round.

Regardless of what happens in her next match, Kung is going to achieve her career-best ranking next week. Currently ranked 283 in the world, she would be hoping to play more WTA tour tournaments this year.

Qiang Wang v Leonie Kung Predictions & Tips

This is likely to be a one-sided contest. Wang is on an impressive run of form and is looking to go all the way this week. Kung, on the other hand, doesn’t quite have the game to trouble her more fancied opponent. Valuable experience is the only thing that the 19-year-old is going to take away from this match.
