Nick Kyrgios v Tommy Paul Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 24 year old Australian, and his American opponent, two years his younger.

Can Kyrgios Maintain His Focus?

As ever, the question with Kyrgios is which version of the player will turn up in Delray Beach this week – the one who, on his day, can compete with and beat the best in the world, or the man who allows his temperament to get the better of him? Whichever one it is, he is certain to be box office and tickets for his matches the hottest in town.

The winner of six ATP titles, including two last year – in Washington and Acapulco – he has recently tried to keep his worst excesses on and off the court in check, probably because he is still serving an ATP suspension, and knows that one further transgression could earn him a ban from the sport.

And, playing in his native Australia, and wishing to show solidarity with the victoms of the bush fire crisis there, he gave generously both in terms of time and money to the victims of the disaster, as he helped his country reach the semi-finals of the ATP Cup, and then in Melbourne, where he got to the fourth round, only to lose to his nemesis, Rafael Nadal.

This is his first event since then.

Paul, a Former Top Junior Player

As a junior, Paul won the Boys’ singles at Roland Garros and was the beaten finalist at the US Open, and in the doubles at the French Open.

Although he has yet to replicate that form on the senior tour, he has won three Challenger titles, including three in 2019 – at Sarasota, New Haven and Tiburon.

One of the features of his performances prior to this year is that all of his best results came on native American soil. He performed far less consistently when he had to travel.

However, he belied that record during the Australian season where, after qualifying for the Adelaide Open, he reached the semi-finals of an ATP event for the first time, before losing to Lloyd Harris of South Africa. He then got to the third round in Melbourne, his best ever showing at a Grand Slam, before losing to Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in three sets.

Last week in New York, however, his involvement was ended in the first round by Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia.

Nick Kyrgios v Tommy Paul Predictions & Tips

Whilst Paul has a good record when playing on native American soil, this match is all about Kyrgios. If the Australian is in one of his distracted moods then Paul has a chance. If he is focused and plays near his best, there will only be one outcome.

Tip: Kyrgios to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click here to get these odds with Unibet)
