Medvedev Looking To Recover From Rotterdam Upset

World number five Daniil Medvedev is part of the ‘Next Gen’ of upcoming tennis players and along with Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, has been tipped as the ones most likely to win major tournaments in the near future.

2019 was a stellar year for Medvedev, who qualified for six finals in a row, won two ATP Masters 1000 titles (Cincinnati and Shanghai) and put up a stellar performance against Rafa Nadal in the US Open final.

Although 2019 ended with a disappointing run at the ATP Tour finals where he lost all his singles matches, Medvedev started off the season strong this year. The inaugural ATP Cup saw him lead Russia to the final four where he came within a few points of defeating Novak Djokovic.

However, a stunning fourth round loss to Stan Wawrinka at the Australian Open, after being up two sets to one set him back and after an opening round loss last week at Rotterdam ATP 500 in straight sets to Vasek Pospisil, the young Russian will be looking for a deep run here in Marseille.

With a lot of contenders to take over the mantle from the Big Three, Medvedev has been earmarked as one of the front runners and will likely not want to lose that logo anytime soon.

Can Sinner Continue His Impressive Run?

Italian teenage Jannik Sinner had a good end to 2019, reaching the final four of the ATP 250 at Antwerp and winning the Next Gen ATP Tour Finals in Milan.

2020 got off to a mediocre start for him with an early loss at the Australian Open, but he had a good run last week at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, defeating David Goffin and being a match point away from winning his quarter-finals against Pablo Carreno Busta.

With a clinical opening round win and now ranked number 68 in the world, a career high, the Italian will be looking to bring his best against Medvedev.
