Elena Rybakina v Kateřina Siniaková Head to Head
The pair have met four times on the tour so far. Both the players have won two matches each. Last year they met three times with Rybakina winning in Istanbul and Siniakova prevailing at the French Open and Guangzhou. They again met last week in the first round at the St. Petersburg Open where Rybakina progressed in straight sets.
Relentless Rybakina Keeps Getting Better
Rybakina has arguably been one of the best players on the tour this year. She has a 16-3 win-loss record this season and has won one title and reached the finals of two more. She started the year as world number 36 but has already broken into the world top 20.
The 20-year-old had an extremely tough match to begin her campaign in Dubai but she got the better of the world number seven and the Australian Open winner, Sofia Kenin in the first round.
Despite the awe-inspiring start to the season, the Russian born Kazakh player has basically started the new year where she left off last season. From August onward, she had a win-loss record of 15-7. She reached one final, one semi-final and two-quarter finals as well as making it to the main draw at the US Open.
This is the first time she is playing in Dubai. Even though she is not seeded, it will not be a surprise to anyone if she goes all the way this week.
Siniakova Finally Finding Her Feet in the New Season
The 23-year-old started this season with three consecutive first-round exits and was still looking to win her first match and even the first set of the season coming into Dubai. But she has managed to get to the main draw after a tough qualifying draw. She also got past Karolina Muchova in the first round in a tough three-set match.
The Czech did not have the best of 2019 and crashed out at the first hurdle on 16 events. She could only make it to the semi-finals on two occasions at Newport and Nurnberg. She also ended the season with a below-par win-loss record of 25-30. Once as high as 31 in the rankings, she is currently at 58 in the rankings.
Her qualifying run would give her a lot of confidence going into this match. Her best showing at the event is reaching the second round last year & another victory here would be her best-ever showing at the event.

Even though both the players have won two matches during the four occasions the pair have met, it is difficult to look past Rybakina for this one. She is in the form of her life and has been near perfect this season. Siniakova, on the other hand, has finally managed to put some wins under her belt but getting past the Kazakh will be a challenge too big for her.
