Petra Martic v Barbora Strycova Head to Head

At tour-level main draw matches, Martic has a dominant 4-0 record against her Czech opponent including a second round straight sets win at the Dubai Championships last week. Strycova’s sole win over Martic came in qualifying at the Sydney International in 2011.

Crestfallen Martic Looking For Another Big Week

Petra Martic played some of her best tennis during this early portion of the 2020 season at the Dubai Championships last week. The Croatian had endured a troubled start to the year in Australia, failing to win back-to-back matches and was then beaten by an 18-year-old Xiyu Wang at the Thailand Open at the start of February.

However, she resurrected her old form that propelled her to a career-best season in 2019, beating Australian Open quarter-finalist Anett Kontaveit en route to making her first semifinal since the WTA 125K in Zhengzhou last September.

Martic though fell to rising Kazakh Elena Rybakina in Dubai, and frustratingly enough, she held set points in both sets. Eventually she lost in two tiebreak sets. The World No.15 has no time to feel sentimental about her recent loss, with the Middle East swing taking a turn to Doha for the Qatar Open.

Strycova, Unlike Martic, in Upbeat Mood

Barbora Strycova’s singles career might have hit the End-of-Life cycle, but she is still capable of punishing erratic performances as evidenced with her three-set win over America’s Amanda Anisimova in Dubai last week.

The Czech is also a perennial danger for the top seeds due to her excellent shot-making particularly on grass, where she made the semifinals of Wimbledon last year in what was a career-highlight.

Stryvova, however, has had enormous success in doubles, winning the the title at the All-England Club alongside her Taiwanese partner Hsieh Su-wei in 2019. Yet more titles have been filling the trophy cabinet in this first quarter of 2020. They picked up their second doubles title of the year in Dubai, to go with the one won in Brisbane, after beating Barbora Krejcikova and Zheng Saisai.

Petra Martic v Barbora Strycova Predictions & Tips

Martic is making her third appearance in Doha, with her two previous showings ending in first round defeats. Strycova, meanwhile, is defending quarterfinal points from last year. Martic though should be confident of picking up her first win in Qatar after a very productive week in Dubai.
