This will be only the second meeting between the pair. In their only meeting, the Russian won in straight sets on the indoor hard courts of Vienna back in 2018.

Confidence Boosting Victory for Khachanov

The 23-year-old Russian came into the tournament having lost three out of the previous four matches. After making a bright start to the season where he won four matches at the ATP cup and reached the third round of the Australian Open, Khachanov lost his form and rhythm. He lost in early rounds at Rotterdam and Marseille and was looking to get his momentum back here in Dubai.

After an amazing 2018 and an impressive start to the 2019 campaign, Khachanov fell off in terms of consistency and results. He won three titles in 2018 and reached the quarter-finals at the French Open and Indian Wells at the start of 2019. He reached his career-high ranking of world number eight on the back of that but had a below-average record of 11 losses out of the last 20 matches of last season.

Khachanov was considered to be one of the Next Gen stars when he won the Paris Masters in 2018. He will have to prove once again that his impressive rise to top 10 was not a coincidence but his last year’s dip in the form was. He can do so by going deep this week in Dubai.

Qualifier Novak on an Impressive Run

Even though the 26-year-old only has a win-loss record of 9-6 this year, his actual performances have been far better. Firstly, he has been playing mainly on the tour events this year unlike plying his trade at the challengers level. After successfully qualifying for the main draws at the Australian Open and Marseille, Novak has been impressive in Dubai as well.

He has come through the qualifying rounds this week to reach the main draw. After winning in the first round, he has reached the second round of the main tour event for the first time since last July.

He has also broken into the top 100 rankings for the first time in the career. The Austrian is playing in the tournament for the first time and likely to achieve his best-ever ranking next week.

Karen Khachanov v Dennis Novak Predictions & Tips

Khachanov is a strong favourite for this match. Khachanov finally managed to win after a couple of disappointing performance and would want to build on that. Novak, on the other hand, was impressive in the first round but does not have the game to trouble the Russian on the faster hard courts.
