Karolina Pliskova v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

Their only previous meeting turned out to be an engrossing one with Pliskova winning the third round U.S. Open clash last year in three sets.

Pliskova Powers Past Pera

Former World No. 1 and 2017 Qatar Open champion Karolina Pliskova got her Doha campaign off to a brilliant start on Tuesday as she powered past American Bernarda Pera 6-2, 6-0 in just under 56 minutes to advance to the third round.

The 2016 U.S. Open finalist was tested by the unseeded American early in the first set, but once she got into her groove there was no stopping the Czech, who won the last 10 games in a row to seal the victory.

The World No. 3, who was knocked out of the quarterfinal of the Dubai Tennis Championship last week by eventual runner-up Elena Rybakina, has had a mixed year so far.

Beginning the season in Brisbane, Pliskova defeated Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys en route to the title. Then at the Australian Open, she safely sailed into the third round, but couldn’t go past Russia’s Anstasia Pavlyuchenkova.

With a win-loss record of 8-2 so far this year, the 27-year-old will be hoping to carry Tuesday’s momentum into the next round, but up against her is an opponent who has been turning heads this year with milestone performances.

Jabeur Downs Giant-Killer Brady

In January, Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to reach the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam event, defeating Johanna Konta, Caroline Wozniacki and Qiang Wang in the earlier rounds of the Australian Open before falling to eventual champion Sofia Kenin in the last eight stage.

Carrying that form to Dubai, the 25-year-old battled past higher-ranked Alison Riske in the first round before falling to champion Simona Halep in an engrossing three-setter, which kept swinging from one end to the other.

On Sunday, she added another feather to her cap, earning her first ever main draw win in Doha in her sixth appearance, ousting Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-2.

Interestingly it was also her first win over her first round opponent in five attempts.

Picking up from where she left Sunday, Jabeur, currently ranked at a career-high 45, needed an hour and 18 minutes to oust American Jennifer Brady 6-4, 6-3 on Tuesday.

With a 10-4 win-loss record this year, Jabeur is getting better with every tournament and will pose a real threat to the former champion on Wednesday.

Karolina Pliskova v Ons Jabeur Predictions & Tips

It should be another thrilling contest between the World No. 3 and the fast improving Arab sensation. With crowds in the Middle East getting behind the Tunisian, it won’t be easy for the third seed, but given her experience, Pliskova should win this in three.
