Tsitsipas In Good Touch

Stefanos Tsitsipas has been earmarked as being among the leading members of the ‘Next Gen’ expected to carry on the baton from the ‘Big Three’. Last season, Tsitsipas won titles at Marseille and Estoril, and ended the year winning the ATP Tour Finals at the O2 arena in London.

The Greek came into the 2020 season with lofty expectations, but the season did not get off to the best of starts for him.

The ATP Cup performance was far from optimal and it was followed by the Australian Open, where Tsitsipas faced an early loss against Milos Raonic.

The Rotterdam 500 followed, where after recovering from a set and a break down in his opener against Hubert Hurkacz, Tsitsipas lost in straight sets to an unexpected opponent, i.e Aljaz Bedene

The Greek arrived in Marseille as defending champion last week under a fair bit of pressure and successfully defended his title last week, with convincing straight set wins through the tournment

Tsitsipas defeated Spanish Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round encounter here in Dubai and looked to continue his good form.

Bublik On The Rise

Despite having been on the tour for a relatively short period of time, Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan has already made a mark. Last season, Bublik made the finals of the Newport Hall of Fame Championships on grass and the ATP 250 Chengdu Open.

2020 was off to an indifferent start for the Kazakh, with early round losses at Adelaide, the Australian Open, Montpellier and Rotterdam. Bublik had a good outing last week at Marseille where he was a semi-finalist, defeating Benoit Paire and Denis Shapovalov, before losing the semi-finals to Tsitsipas.

The rising star got off to a strong start here in Dubai, defeating Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets.
