Those early signs of rustiness against Barbora Krejcikova which saw Kvitova stretched to a tie-breaker in the first set in their opening round match looked to be back in her semi-final against Katerina Siniakova. However, a decisive break after the score read 5-5 in the first set ensured Kvitova could wrap up the set.

She did one better in the second to clinch a 7-5, 6-4 win over Siniakova and move to the final.

Kvitova had gone into the pandemic-induced break with a finals appearance at the Doha Open and a quarterfinal at the Australian Open where she went down to Ash Barty.

Muchova Pushed to the Distance

Karolina Muchova did not have too many problems in getting past Kristyna Pliskova in her first round win, nabbing a 6-3, 6-4 win but she was then stretched to three sets by Barbora Strycova in the semifinal.

After Muchova had snapped up the first set easily, Strycova came back strongly to level the match at a set apiece. With the third set played to a Super Tie-Breaker, Muchova managed to edge out her opponent 10-6 to make it to the title-decider.

Muchova had earlier not had the best of times this season with second round appearances at the Australian Open and Doha Open being her best showing.
