Anett Kontaveit v Laura Siegemund Head to Head

This will be the second time Kontaveit will play Siegemund. In their first encounter, which came in the second round of the 2018 Beijing Open, Kontaveit won in three sets. This will be the first time they will be playing on clay.

Kontaveit Favourite to Make it Two in Two

A quarterfinalist at the Australian Open earlier this year, Kontaveit has had a solid record on clay as well. Last year while she was 4-4 on win-loss on the surface, she had won 12 of her 17 matches year before last.

Going into this tournament though, the Estonian hadn’t played any matches on clay and had missed any kind of exhibition tournaments as well till she participated in the Merko Cup late in July. Those two matches came on hard court and while she won both, beating Anastasija Sevastova and Jelena Ostapenko, the question was if she would adjust to playing on clay after such a long break.

Turns out, Kontaveit or her fans need not have worried too much. She not only shrugged off any rustiness associated with having not played on clay for a while, but also won her opening round match in fine style; beating Patricia Maria Tig 6-3, 6-3 in 93 minutes.

Kontaveit admitted it was tough for her to switch to clay courts, and the windiness added to her difficulties. She also said:

“I fought well, managed to come back in the second set, never gave up on the set when I was 3-0 down and really stayed in there. I feel like I played the important points well, and I wasn’t missing on those.”

Laura Siegemund Loves Her Time on Clay

65th-ranked Siegemund has been in the thick of action playing in exhibition matches during the break. In fact, with 17 matches under her belt, Siegemund was among those who spent the most time on court as WTA tennis went on a break.

That showed in her first round win over Irina Camelia Begu. A much better prepared Siegemund stormed into the second round with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Begu.

The Romanian, who had started off the year with a quarterfinal appearance at the Auckland Open before getting knocked out in the second round in the Australian Open, has a far superior record on clay than on any other surfaces.

Last year, for instance, she was 18-11 on the red dirt while struggling to 13-13 on hard court. Similarly, it was 26-15 on clay in 2018 and 2-4 on hard courts.

This is why the contest could be a lot more even.

Anett Kontaveit v Laura Siegemund Prediction & Tip

Kontaveit is the favourite with an offer of 1/2 for her win but we expect it to be slightly closer than that. Either go for the games market, with an over 21.5 games in the match or three sets in the match.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
