Camila Giorgi v Fiona Ferro Head to Head
This will be the first time that Giorgi and Ferro will be clashing in a competitive match and by the looks of things it promises to be a fighting encounter.
Giorgi Shocks Tournament Favourite
Italy’s Giorgi’s run till the quarterfinal saw her clinch wins against Rebecca Peterson and Kaja Juvan but facing up to Dayana Yastremska, she knew she had to get off to a flying start to have any chance. As it turned out, Giorgi didn’t start off too well and faced multiple hurdles but stuck it out to clinch a thrilling win.
After losing the first set 6-4, Giorgi saved a couple of match-points in the second set. These came when Yastremska was serving at 5-4, but the Italian showed remarkable mental grittiness to thwart her opponent and take the set to a tie-breaker.
In the third set, Giorgi was aided by Yastremska’s back to back double-faults which resulted in a break at 3-3. She held on to go 5-3 up and then broke the Ukrainian again to win it in nearly three hours.
With a fighting win under her belt, it should give her some confidence but can she show physical resilience coming into this last-four encounter needs to be seen.

10 won matches during the pandemic break for Ferro might not have meant too much from a rankings point of view but the amount of confidence it would have given her can only be seen from her results in this tournament. Interestingly those matches were played on hard court followed by this tournament on clay.
In Palermo, Ferro has been clinical in her performances. It started with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nadia Podoroska before sent out Ekaterina Alexandrova 7-5, 6-2 in the second.
Ferro faced Sara Errani in her quarterfinal, an opponent she had beaten earlier on clay court qualifiers at Rabat but here, in the main draw, she registered her first win over the former Italian champion. After having started the match off slowly, Ferro ran off winning the nine of the final 10 games in the match to seal her semifinal berth.
