Anna Blinkova v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head
This will be the second meeting between Blinkova and Bouzkova with the first one having come in Guangzhou in China last year. Blinkova had raced off to a 6-3, 6-1 win over her opponent to romp into the semifinal of the event.

Last year, Blinkova finished with a win-loss record of 48-28 which helped scoot her ranking from 123rd to a season-high of 59th. This included a title win in New Haven, and two other WTA competition semifinal appearances.
One came in Guangzhou, at the same tournament where she defeated Bouzkova, before losing to Sofia Kenin and the other was at Luxembourg, where she went down to Jelena Ostapenko.
Unfortunately for Blinkova, this has been a less profitable year, results-wise. She got herself a main draw win in Shenzhen, and another at the Australian Open but an opening round exit in Hobart, and failure to qualify for both, Dubai and Doha has put bit of a spanner in her works from the previous season.
Which is why, a win here in Lexington in her first round match against Kristie Ahn, especially after being a set down, would have come as a huge relief for the Russian. Can she now make it two in two?

Bouzkova Close to a Career-Best
Ranked 48th in the world, Bouzkova is just a rank away from her career-best, and that has been down to her excellent showing in the Monterrey Open before the pandemic break. With wins over Wang Yafan and Johanna Konta to her name, Bouzkova made it to the final in that tournament before going down narrowly to Elina Svitolina.
And more than five months from that runner-up trophy, Bouzkova was drawn to face Konta yet again in the first round. She came away with flying colours, winning the encounter in straight sets.
Bouzkova’s service served her well, giving her a fifth win against a top-20 player, having played 12 matches. And despite having not played all these months, a determined Bouzkova did say she had been feeling good during the practice sessions.
She added:
“On the other hand, I knew that coming into a real match, I shouldn’t have that many expectations, because it’s different.”
With expectations having met now, it would be interesting to see how she goes in this second round match against a player wanting to make a comeback to form.
