Jennifer Brady v Jil Teichmann Head to Head

In a tournament which had Serena Williams, Aryna Sabalenka, Johanna Konta, Ons Jabeur, Venus Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Cori Gauff and Sloane Stephens, it should come as bit of a surprise that it’s Brady and Teichmann who have made it to the final.

The two have played each other twice before this, and both those matches came in 2019 on hard court surfaces. Brady won the first one in Cincinnati in three sets while Teichmann got her revenge in a hard-fought straight-set win at Limoges later in the year.

Brady Gets the Better of Gauff

Such has been Brady’s form in this tournament, not even the precocious talent of Cori Gauff could do much to stall her juggernaut. Gauff had come into the semifinal with some hefty wins, against Sabalenka and Jabeur and she held the edge coming into the match.

Brady, on the other hand, had never played in a WTA competition final, having won four ITF titles with the last of those having come in 2016.

And yet, when Brady took on Gauff, the traffic went just one way. In the direction of Brady. A landslide first set was followed by Gauff trying to show some fight but Brady had none of it.

In the end Brady triumphed in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the final. It was her fourth successive straight-set win of the tournament, having beaten Heather Watson, Magda Linette and Marie Bouzkova before this, losing not more than three games in either of those victories.

Teichmann Shrugs off Clay Court Tag

Two titles at the WTA level and six on the ITF circuit and all of them have come on clay for Teichmann. It’s therefore fair to assume Teichmann’s bit of a clay court specialist but in this competition she has shown she has more strings to her bow that one thought.

And she said so after winning her semifinal against wildcard entrant Shelby Rogers in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 to march into another final. Speaking to the broadcaster, Teichmann announced:

“Everyone thinks I’m just a clay court player. I think I’ve proven that it’s not only this way.”

And having won all her matches in this competition in straight sets, much like Brady, Teichmann has reasons to believe in herself a lot more on non-clay surfaces. Sure, she did not play any of those aforementioned big-ticket names because of a lucky draw but Teichmann will start off in the final on even keel despite Brady being the bookmaker’s favourite.

Jennifer Brady v Jil Teichmann Prediction & Tip

As mentioned earlier, Brady is the favourite, with bet365 offer 4/11 to win this while Teichmann is 11/5 for her third title. However, in finals like these, with players ranked not too far from each other (Brady’s 49th to Teichmann’s 63rd) it’s typically difficult to predict how things go in the final.

Tip: Games Handicap Teichmann +4.5: 8/11 (bet365)
