Alison Riske v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

Riske and Anisimova met recently at the UTR Pro Match Series in Florida during the pandemic-enforced break. It was the experienced Riske who won in three truncated sets.

This will be a first meeting at tour-level.

Late Bloomer Riske Credits Increased Maturity

With age comes wisdom. Such has been the life of Alison Riske who is into her 12th year as a professional tennis player. The pony-tailed American enjoyed a career-best season in 2019 which included a first Grand Slam quarterfinal showing at Wimbledon and soared to a career-high ranking of World No.18.

And to top it all off, she tied the knot with her long-time partner Stephen Amritraj shortly after losing to Serena Williams at Wimbledon.

It is not just on the grass where the 30-year-old dazzled last year (compiling a 14-2 record), but she had a string of strong results on hard courts not least, reaching the finals in Shenzhen and Wuhan.

Before 2019, Riske had not broken the top 30 despite maintaining a double-digit ranking for almost six years. She made a huge jump last year and will likely get a top-10 seeding at the US Open this year.

Anisimova Searching For Momentum

Amanda Anisimova played some of her best tennis during the first six months of last year. She claimed a maiden title in Bogota, and later on went to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time at Roland Garros. That impressive fortnight on the Parisian dirt saw her sensationally defeat defending champion Simona Halep in the quarterfinals.

However, the American young gun would play just five more tournaments after last year’s French Open, with her 2019 season disrupted by injury and the unfortunate passing of her coach and father. She was still able to get to a career-high ranking of No.21 in October, and finished the year ranked No.24 in the world.

Anisimova began her 2020 season in style by reaching the last four in Auckland – a tournament which birthed her breakthrough proper on the main stage 12 months ago. That was her major highlight in an otherwise below-par first three months.

Can she put together a strong showing on home soil?

Riske v Anisimova Prediction & Tip

Riske has good combination of aggression and tenacity. Her net play is decent as well. Anisimova will likely have to be accurate on her big first serve and first-strike forehand.

Tip: Anisimova to win: 4/5 (bet365)
