Pegula Hoping to Put up a Fight

Pegula’s first ever title came at the 2019 edition of the Washington Open and while her form has fallen a tad, she will be happy to note she made the final of the Auckland Open earlier this year too.

A quarterfinal at the Newport Beach Open and another last-eight appearance at the Indian Wells $125k event showed her potential but what she would like to do is scalp some of the top players.

Brady might be ranked 40th but at the moment her form resembles that of a top-10 player and Pegula would do well to push her around. Unfortunately for her, in the one tournament she played after the resumption of the season, Pegula fell 6-3, 6-2 to Cici Bellis in the second round at Lexington.

Pegula enters this tournament as a qualifier, having beaten Varvara Gracheva and Luidmila Samsonova.

Brady Showing Solid Form

Brady has been in the form of her life this year and it’s helped her get to her career-best 40th-rank on the WTA ladder as well.

She took off in the very first tournament she played this year in Brisbane, where as a qualifier Brady made the quarterfinal. In the process she defeated Maria Sharapova and Ash Barty. Brady then made the same stage of the Dubai International tennis tournament too, going a step forward to enter the semfinals.

This time around, Brady defeated Elina Svitolina and Garbine Muguruza in the tournament.

Even during the pandemic break, Brady has played in three tournaments in USA finishing with a 11-5 win-loss which consists of a five-match winning streak at the World TeamTennis for the Orange County Breakers.

Brady’s best showing came at the Lexington Open though last week, as she romped to the title win without dropping a set. Wins over Cori Gauff and Jil Teichmann underlined her class and she could well prove to be a handful here.

Jennifer Brady v Jessica Pegula Prediction & Tip

Not surprisingly, Brady is 2/5 to win this one while Pegula starts off at 7/4. We will be backing Brady for this and expect her to romp this in straight sets despite the opponent’s obvious talent.

Tip: Brady to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
